Aesthetic Double Chalcedony-Coated Selenite Blades – Deccan Traps
This ethereal specimen features two elongated selenite crystals encrusted in a sparkling druse of natural chalcedony. While the crystals grow side by side, they are not twinned — but rather individual blades preserved in parallel, each contributing to the sculptural elegance of the piece.
The outer coating of white chalcedony glitters in light, while icy blue tones near the base add visual depth — a natural effect caused by trace minerals in the silica. The selenite core remains intact inside, giving the piece structure while remaining visually subtle beneath the quartz-rich shell.
This is not a pseudomorph, as the original gypsum (selenite) has not been replaced — making it a fascinating example of mineral encrustation, where two distinct minerals meet in harmony without losing their individual identity.
