Amethyst with Calcite Cast (Dogtooth Epimorph) – Uruguay

This sparkling Uruguayan amethyst dome features vibrant lavender zoning and a rare geological highlight: a hollow dogtooth calcite cast (epimorph). The pale, ghost-like form in the center shows where a sharp scalenohedral calcite crystal once stood. Over time, it was overgrown by quartz/amethyst/goethite and later dissolved, leaving a hollow cavity that perfectly preserves its shape.

Epimorphs like this are prized because they capture a vanished crystal in stone. The amethyst preserves the story of calcite’s presence while showing off sparkling purple geometry.
