Bolivian Ametrine A-Grade Hydrothermal Etched New Find- Anahí Mine | River Walkers Minerals

Bolivian Ametrine A-Grade Hydrothermal Etched New Find- Anahí Mine | River Walkers Minerals

This is an elongated, well-preserved ametrine specimen from a recent and extremely limited find. This piece displays sharp color zoning between amethyst and citrine.

The majority of ametrine specimens currently available worldwide were mined approximately 30 years ago and typically show significant damage, abrasion, or incomplete crystal preservation. In contrast, this piece retains sharp internal clarity, strong color zoning, and intact etched surfaces with minimal surface dings, qualifying it as A-Grade material.

Formation & Geology:

Natural ametrine forms when quartz grows through zones of varying temperature and iron oxidation within a hydrothermal vein. The coexistence of amethyst and citrine-forming conditions within a single crystal is exceptionally rare and currently known only from this mine in Bolivia.

This specimen exhibits natural hydrothermal etching, created when late-stage fluids dissolved portions of the crystal surface. The result is complex surface texture and enhanced internal light interaction, reflecting multiple, beautiful phases of geological activity.

Rarity & Mining Context:

  • Hydrothermal etched ametrine is not commonly recovered, even at the source.
  • The mine primarily produces standard amethyst points, not ametrine.
  • Etched specimens occur only in deep, mud-filled sections of the mine.
  • Typical production yields only one or two etched ametrine pieces per season, if any.

Provenance:

This piece comes directly from the mine, obtained through the sole individual currently exporting this new material. He is my direct contact from this mine and at present, the only person importing these etched specimens internationally. The material was shipped from Bolivia to Canada and then to me in the United States without passing through any secondary dealers.

Please note: The crystal surface is naturally matte when dry. For photography and transparency, a trace amount of mineral oil (less than a single drop) was lightly applied and immediately wiped away with a dry cloth to accurately show surface texture and color; anything remaining can be easily removed by rinsing with water.
