Double Japan-Law Twin Quartz Cluster with Pyrite- Hubei, China | River Walkers Minerals
Weight & Dimensions: 252g | 4 × 3 × 2.5 in
Locale: Hubei, China 🇨🇳
This beautiful Hubei specimen is a dense cluster of clear to lightly included quartz accented throughout by sharp, highly lustrous, metallic cubic pyrite crystals. The standout feature is the presence of two Japan-law twin quartz formations, including a prominent pair rising from the top of the cluster. Japan-law twinning occurs when two quartz crystals grow together at a characteristic angle of approximately 84°, creating the distinctive wide, V-shaped formation seen here. The larger quartz points contain scattered rusty orange-brown mineral inclusions that add character without hiding their translucency, while bright brassy pyrite cubes and clusters are nestled between and directly against the quartz throughout the specimen.
The presence of two distinct Japan-law twins on a single cluster makes this an especially unusual and collectible specimen, as this specific form of quartz twinning occurs far less commonly than ordinary quartz growth. Combined with the sharp metallic pyrite scattered throughout, it’s a standout example from Hubei.
