Elite shungite (also known as Type I) is rare, typically containing up to ~98% carbon. Unlike common shungite, it has a brighter sheen, smoother fracture surfaces, and a more refined, almost silver-black appearance. It’s best known for its purity and is the only natural mineral confirmed to contain fullerenes—unique carbon structures studied for their unusual molecular stability.
