This is an epic old-stock Illinois fluorite with provenance to the personal collection of longtime mineral collector Walter Kellogg. The specimen is composed of large, deeply saturated purple fluorite with dramatic stepped and etched growth across the crystal faces. Under stronger lighting, the edges glow violet while the thicker areas remain nearly black-purple.

Tiny metallic chalcopyrite crystals are scattered throughout the fluorite, adding flashes of gold against the intense purple. The complex, heavily textured growth makes this one especially impressive in person. It looks completely different depending on the angle and lighting.

The accompanying older collection label identifies this specimen as ex. A. Neely and notes that it had been wrapped in a 1967 issue of the Hardin Independent newspaper. It later became part of the Walter Kellogg personal collection, giving this piece an especially interesting documented collecting history. Original collection labels will accompany the specimen.
