This is a large single golden calcite crystal with beautiful gemmy translucency, rich honey-yellow color, and a sharp termination. Under light, the upper portion really glows and reveals tons of internal detail.

The surface becomes especially interesting, where smaller calcite growths climb along the face of the main crystal. There are also small amounts of dolomite and metallic pyrite attached directly to the calcite, adding a little contrast without taking away from the impressive single-crystal formation. At 4.6 inches tall, this is a substantial and very displayable Casteel Mine calcite.
