An incredible piece of medieval history, this silver signet ring dates to the Crusader period, c. 12th–13th century AD, approximately 800 years ago.

The ring features a broad circular bezel engraved with a central boss surrounded by a radiating geometric cross-like design. Its silver composition has been independently confirmed through non-destructive XRF testing.

Signet and seal rings were personal objects used throughout medieval society, with some designed to impress identifying symbols into wax. During the Crusader period, the Latin East was home to an extraordinary mix of knights, military orders, pilgrims, clergy, merchants, soldiers and local communities.

A ring like this could have belonged to a medieval knight, a pilgrim traveling through the Holy Land, and could likely have been associated with one of the military religious orders active during this period, including the Knights Templar. Without the identity of its original owner, we can only imagine whose hand it may have once been worn on nearly eight centuries ago.

The Knights Templar were founded in Jerusalem in the early 12th century and became one of the best-known military religious orders of the Crusader era. Cross and geometric imagery was widely used throughout medieval Christian culture, making the design on this ring particularly fitting for its historical period.

According to the accompanying documentation, the ring comes from a private European collection with collection history extending into the late 20th century. The original Certificate of Authenticity and available provenance documentation will accompany the artifact.

The ring retains extensive age-related wear, patination and surface deposits, preserving the character accumulated throughout its long history.
