A beautiful old-stock Denton Mine fluorite with layers of translucent pink-purple to rich grape-purple cubic growth. The crystals are heavily stepped and intergrown, giving the entire specimen a complex, architectural look from every angle.

One of my favorite details is the secondary fluorite growth across several of the larger crystal faces. Tiny sharply formed fluorite crystals sit directly on the earlier cubes, creating a crystal-on-crystal texture. Scattered dark polka-dot inclusions add even more detail throughout. Denton Mine is well known for intensely color-zoned fluorite, including these purple crystals.

This piece comes from an older collection from the Chuck and Mary Wing Collection / Wonderland Rock Club, and the accompanying handwritten collection label will be included with the specimen.

The Denton Mine is one of the classic fluorite localities of southern Illinois and produced some exceptionally varied material, from deeply saturated purple crystals to highly transparent, color-zoned specimens.  This one has that unmistakable Illinois look, but the lighter rosy-purple color and abundance of intricate secondary growth make it especially fun to look at up close.
