The Wutong Collection: Rhodochrosite With Fluorite & Quartz
The Wutong Collection: Rhodochrosite With Fluorite & Quartz
A remarkable association specimen from the Wutong Mine, Liubao, Cangwu County, Guangxi, China — known for its uniquely vibrant combinations of rhodochrosite, quartz, and fluorite.
This piece showcases a delicate interplay of color and texture. Sparkling pink rhodochrosite microcrystals dot the surface of transparent quartz clusters, whose radiating growth habit gives the piece a frosted, crystalline sheen. Scattered among the quartz are sharp purple fluorite cubes, their saturated hue providing striking contrast against the bright quartz.
Viewed from any angle, the mineralization tells a clear geological story — manganese-rich hydrothermal fluids depositing rhodochrosite in late-stage growth over a bed of quartz and fluorite within carbonate-hosted veins.
Mounted on a custom-fit, museum-grade acrylic base, this specimen is elegant, balanced, and quintessentially Wutong — a locality celebrated for its color harmony and top quality minerals.

Geological Note: The Wutong Mine’s mineral assemblage formed from hydrothermal fluids enriched in manganese, lead, zinc, and fluorine, circulating through limestone host rock. The results are spectacular combinations where rhodochrosite, quartz, and fluorite crystallized together, and has made Wutong one of China’s most collectible modern localities.
