Russian Tourmaline Slice – Malkhan Pegmatite Field
Russian Tourmaline Slice – Malkhan Pegmatite Field
A complex and highly saturated piece with an electric yellow interior that glows through a gemmy pink border. The highlight is the rich crimson triangle near the lower edge — a rare formation likely due to zoning and selective element incorporation during growth.
From the remote Malkhan Range in Transbaikal, Russia, these tourmaline slices are from one of the most celebrated tourmaline-producing pegmatites in the world.
What you’re looking at is natural elbaite tourmaline, cut into slices to reveal the vivid color zoning that developed during growth. Malkhan tourmalines are especially prized for their intense saturation and clarity, often showing striking combinations of pink, red, yellow, and green, with occasional zoning that mimics triangular or hexagonal symmetry — a natural result of the crystal’s trigonal system and complex internal chemistry during formation.
These slices are from single crystals, not assembled or fused, and often exhibit:
✨ Sharp internal zoning
✨ Deep pink to cranberry hues, golden yellow cores, bright yellow and pink outer layers, and dark “rind” borders
✨ Natural internal features like growth tubes, mica inclusions, or subtle etching
✨ No heating or treatment — these colors are 100% natural
💎 Mineral species: Elbaite (a lithium-rich member of the tourmaline group)
🧭 Origin: Malkhan Pegmatite Field, Eastern Siberia, Russia 🇷🇺
📐 Formation: Sliced perpendicular to the c-axis of prismatic crystals.
This piece weighs 14 grams.
These are ideal for serious collectors, gem cutters, or anyone seeking rare and naturally artistic mineral specimens. The Malkhan locality has a limited and unpredictable production history, making each piece a highly desirable addition to any collection.
