Uncommon Druzy Pencil Calcites on Amethyst- Uruguay | River Walkers Minerals

This is an exceptionally unusual amethyst specimen from Artigas, Uruguay, featuring a formation of long, slender needle-like calcite crystals growing across a bed of sparkling purple amethyst. Rather than the more typical blocky or rhombohedral calcite commonly seen from this locale, these calcites have elongated, pencil-like forms with sharply defined terminations.

What really makes them special is their coating of tiny druzy goethite crystals. The warm metallic bronze-gold goethite selectively covers portions of the calcite, creating beautiful bands and patches along the pale crystals. Under close inspection, the entire association is incredibly detailed- the fine druzy coating sparkles against the smooth calcite terminations and the rich purple amethyst beneath.

At nearly 4.25 pounds, this is a substantial display specimen with an especially unusual mineral association. The base has been cut flat so the piece stands securely on its own, displaying the calcites upright and making it an incredible cabinet or statement piece.
