Uruguayan Amethyst with Complex Calcite Growth
Uruguayan Amethyst with Complex Calcite Growth
A highly textural specimen from Artigas, Uruguay—this piece showcases deep grape-colored amethyst coated in glittering microcrystals, with stacked calcite formations creating a beautiful architectural contrast.
The calcite exhibits multiple growth habits, including rhombohedral crystals, stepped etching, and flattened tabular forms—many with satiny surfaces and optical clarity. Some faces even reveal geometric skeletal growth patterns under magnification. Scattered hematite inclusions and black spheroidal minerals (possibly manganese oxides) provide added contrast against the saturated purple quartz.
This is a true collector-grade piece that exemplifies the geological richness of Uruguay’s volcanic seams. Excellent aesthetics, vibrant luster, and a fascinating mix of crystal habits all in one sculptural form.
This piece is partially polished, showing off the vibrant agate banding.
